LOLWut?

Yesterday I spent over ten hours trying to figure out why two of my three most-often-used websites would not load, Gmail and Amazon. Everything else loaded fine. I learned more than I freaking ever want to know about possible fixes, none of which worked. It was a horrible nightmare.
This morning, Gmail opened nice as you please, followed by Amazon ditto. Gmail's waiting-to-load page had a different message. Before it showed the big Gmail M; this morning appeared the words 'Gmail Workspace'. ???
Now I'm once bitten, twice shy -- nervous as hell this freaky-deaky thing will happen again. (Though desperately relieved that it fixed itself.)
Did anyone here have the same thing happen yesterday?
It was a solar flare, right?

Thanks, Klaus.
Not to take up your whole day with this, but: Are you saying your wild guess is that Gmail and Amazon are using IPv6? Or that you know they're using IPv6 and you're guessing that the provider is having trouble with it?
This will help me as I research to learn more about this oh-so-wonderful snafu.
I feel a small sliver of consolation that I would never have figured this out on my own in a million years. Also that I actually understood most of the fix-it stuff.
SSDD.
Every time I think I'm finally getting a handle on all this, the Internet throws me a new curveball.

Here is an explanation of IPv6 vs. IPv4, written in actual human English: https://www.edpnet.be/en/support/installation-and-usage/internet/learn-about-ipv6/what-is-ipv6-and-do-i-need-it.html

Boy, we're lucky to have Klaus, the Wunderkind of TNCR if not the Western world. His 'wild guess' looks to be right on the money.
But look here: You can go to this site and it will presto like magic test your IPv6 connectivity. DO THIS if you want to prepare against being hurled without warning into the outer darkness like I was.
Carp, my dumb ass is showing again. If I list the addy for you to go to, I don't know if my IP number will show up in your box, or yours. I assume yours, because why would mine show to you? But the Internet is nefarious and evil. So Google 'Test your IPv6' and get to it that way, please.
