    Interesting thread....

Bottom line? Eat a bit less meat, definitely less sugar, a few more and varied vegetables, and get some regular exercise. After that, a lot depends on genetics...

      Am I missing something?

          How does this work exactly?

          Grandfather 53
          Grandfather 98
          Father 73

          Total 224

          224 / 3 = 75

Or do I just pick one?

Of course all 3 smoked cigarettes like crazy.

          Should I add a few years since I don't?

Maybe I should just ask my insurance guy. I get the feeling that he knows.

My wife worked with a lady who lived the ultimate healthy lifestyle. She watched her weight religiously, ate very little red meat, exercised daily and her husband shouldered most of the stress of everyday life (he was the minister of a large church).

She died in her early seventies, about seven or eight years after her quad by-pass, from a MI.

One more I'll add to that - "eat less" in general.

                Do more.

                Stop going on about it.

                I was only joking

Suggestions for reducing cholesterol or health threat from excess cholesterol are just that: suggestions. They are not set in stone. Do what the reputable websites suggest, and as Phibes said, stop going on about it; put it from your mind. If it's gonna get ya, it's gonna get ya.

Those guidelines are pretty effective, though. Diet and exercise, diet and exercise, diet and exercise.

Get your diet right and get your weight to normal.

Do all that before you do any meds. Relying on meds (which might bring more problems anyway) without changing your bad habits would be like pouring water in a holey bucket.

That 30% that’s genetic is what is sounds like took her. The 70% that is lifestyle related for healthy longevity is what you are gunning for.
