My piano teacher Thomas Schwan is doing a small tour playing Chopin's complete nocturnes. I noticed he'll be around where a few forumites live. He's previously played the complete WTC1 and WTC2, and the houses are not always packed, as you can see from the videos. I wish I could have gone to his recital near Dallas tonight. He'll be in Chicago in November. I doubt the houses will be packed, if his WTC recitals are an indication.

Kind of an "old school" soul song, done by a recent group; Thee Sacred Souls. Whole album is like this so worth a listen if you like this type of music.

@Copper said in What are you listening to now?:
That beats Rubinstein by 2.
Schwan is 5.3% better than Rubinstein.

A song from another good album. The "group" is called The Secret Sisters, who are actually two sisters. The album is called Man, Mind, Medicine
This song is called All The Ways

@kluurs Interesting story about the singer. LOL
My first thought on hearing the performance was that her voice seemed much more mature than her age.

Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopler. Really good concert video. The did an album together - "All The Roadrunning", which is actually quite good also.
Here is one song from the album (and concert)

They are both remarkable artists.
Probably my favorite Knopfler/Harris collaboration.
Not live, but, still.
Link to videoHarris is 77 now, and Knopfler is 75.
Geezers.

I've always liked Mark Knopfler's guitar playing. It was such a pleasant change from all the mindless shredding that was so popular back in the 70's and 80's. And his writing is great - every song a story.

Came across this singer and have been enjoying her - Gillian Welch
Here are a couple of her songs. The first is not her own. It was original from a US country singer called Johnny Cash. She mostly collaborates with David Rawlings.

Just really "found" this guy. Listening to a lot of him recently. Hadn't really heard of him before. John Prine. In a way, reminds me of Bruce Springsteen (hear me out! LOL). Neither are great singers but I think that both are very good storytellers. Have a way to convey a lot of emotion and story in 3 minutes or so.
Here are a couple of his songs:
Speed of the Sound of Loneliness
Link to video
You come home late and you come home early
You come on big when you're feeling small
You come home straight and you come home curly
Sometimes you don't come home at allSo what in the world's come over you?
And what in heaven's name have you done?
You've broken the speed of the sound of loneliness
You're out there running just to be on the runWell, I got a heart that burns with a fever
And I got a worried and a jealous mind
How can a love that'll last forever
Get left so far behindWhat in the world's come over you?
And what in heaven's name have you done?
You've broken the speed of the sound of loneliness
You're out there running just to be on the runIt's a mighty mean and a dreadful sorrow
It's crossed the evil line today
Well, how can you ask about tomorrow?
We ain't got one word to saySo what in the world's come over you?
And what in heaven's name have you done?
You've broken the speed of the sound of loneliness
You're out there running just to be on the run
You're out there running just to be on the run
You're out there running just to be on the runSouveniers (song begins at 1:25)

All the snow has turned to water
Christmas days have come and gone
Broken toys and faded colors
Are all that's left to linger on
I hate graveyards and old pawn shops
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my childhood souvenirs
Memories they can't be boughten
They can't be won at carnivals for free
Well it took me years
To get those souvenirs
And I don't know how they slipped away from me
Broken hearts and dirty windows
Make life difficult to see
That's why last night and this mornin'
Always look the same to me
I hate reading old love letters
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my sweetheart's souvenirs
Memories they can't be boughten
They can't be won at carnivals for free
Well it took me years
To get those souvenirs
And I don't know how they slipped away from me
