As I've posted before, you can get your private railcar attached to an Amtrak train. If you have to ask how much it costs....well, you know.

However, they are available for charter.

A couple chartered TWO private railcars for their honeymoon. They left Chicago on the Empire Builder, Portland-bound, a few days ago. On the way back to Chicago, a foamer railman snapped this photo.

      Big shekels I'd wager.

You had to ask, didn't you...

        Here are Amtrak's fees:

So these people were paying $6.75 per mile to get to Portland from Chicago.

Note, that's what Amtrak charges. Other fees, such as parking, switching, "head-end power" easily total another $3000.

But even that doesn't include the costs of the staff for those cars (sleeper attendants, chefs) and the cost of food, etc.

You do NOT have access to the rest of the train while traveling, I might add.

        Yeah, expensive AF.

I looked at a private car to NOLA. It's about $1500 for two (vs $500 on Amtrak). City of New Orleans is a lot of night travel, and, well, the hell.

        These cars, specifically:

$12.5K a day. That's more than I used to make in a freaking week!

Ten days of that or a new 7-foot Steinway.
One day of that or ten new M1 iMacs.
Two days of that or one photo-op for one couple with Trump.

I was wrong. This wasn't a charter for a honeymoon, but as a retirement trip for a news anchor.

            But, these pictures....
