For those of you who don't keep up with this stuff...

There has been a very quiet revolution going on in police long guns and civilian home defense weapons. For many, many years, the standard long gun for both was a shotgun, usually a twelve gauge. Things have changed.

Starting about a decade or so ago, police transitioned from the shotgun to the AR-15. The AR with collapsible stock can fit a variety of shooters, male or female. It has significantly less recoil, with much faster second shots. It has less penetration with 55g bullets in many common building materials. And it can defeat body armor. Because of all that, more and more civilians now own AR's for home defense.

If you're thinking about one for your home, you can find a wide range of pricing and quality, but the best bang for the buck for the casual user is going to be the S&W or the Ruger.

Been considering building one for while now. My buddy is an expert on them and has offered me his consultation during the build. Just need to pull the proverbial trigger.

Just decide what you need (or want). Lots of components to choose from.

I think you'll enjoy the build.
