For the budget, I thought they did pretty well.

How do they keep the costs down?
- No name actors.
- Multiple hats such as Producer/writer.
- Re-enactors. More authentic and they bring their own wardrobe.

Saw the first two. I'd say they did fairly decently. The script was the weakest factor for both, in my opinion. Actors did fine.
EDIT
Scratch that, cinematography was also way more Ken Burns than it should've been, making it more of a snooze fest. But hey, $700,000. (They could've had better camerawork anyway, though.) -

I find it amazing you can make a full length film for that kind of money.
I find The Void to be interesting, because I'm interested in WW2 armor. The Hellcats used in the movie are real. The Panzer IV is not. That tank is a project to create the most accurate replica ever produced, with the donor chassis being from a M113.
It's good enough to have fooled several experts at a distance.

Equipment, both hardware and soft-, is a ton more affordable than it used to be. I've seen some experimental movies shot entirely with iPhones and decent audio equipment that pass muster. Tech is no longer a barrier. But there are still guys like Tarantino, Nolan, and Anderson who prefer film.

I'll have to check that one out. I don't regret seeing the first two, and I remember thinking to myself, "this is pretty low-budget. .......Hey, this ain't half bad."
I had no idea just how low-budget.

I think those are a generational phenoma, not to be repeated for awhile.
