A Bit of Fry & Peterson

Stephen Fry wrote what is clearly the best introduction to understanding, appreciating, and writing poetry in the 21st century. It's simple but has no equal.
He probably wouldn't like this description, but Peterson's written the most in-depth and insightful literary criticism of the 21st century.
Two of them, kicking it around for 90 minutes? Sign. My. Ass. Up.

Stephen Fry is my hero.
I'm still not sure I can manage 1 hour 38 mins of it. Those computer games aren't going to play themselves, you know.

- Yeah, Fry's pretty much the GOAT. Mythos is wonderful.
- You cannot honestly tell me that you can't learn about the narrative empiricism inherent in modern nested social structures and beat the shit out of orcs at the same time. But if you're gonna be a pansy about it, just podcast it up and do it piecemeal.

When you put it like that, I'm suddenly reminded that there's some paint drying in the spare room that I urgently need to watch.

It's a great discussion because it's 90 minutes worth of two very smart people illustrating far better than I ever could that stories are old. "Evolutionary biology" old. They're part of our definition, and there's nothing more important or deeper to grapple with. They're how we learn how to do what humans are supposed to do.
Heavy dope.

@aqua-letifer Stories are the teaching tool of the ages. I used stories to teach Economics. Ja really. Attendance was not a problem for my classes, because they wanted to hear the next story. Even the college president heard about it in the hallways from students.
It helps people remember and learn. When I happen to see a student from years ago, they often comment about how surprised they are at how they still remember from those silly stories.
Oh yes, they could be very silly, such as Rosie Rancher and Farmer Fred teaching them international trade and comparative advantage. Stick figure drawings featured Rosie on her tractor with a diamond necklace and tiara, and her lovely long brown hair (at which point I would lift the hair behind my ear and elicit laughter from the class). Farmer Fred had only a seed cap and pitchfork. It was all quite ridiculous, yet effective. People laughed and learned.
