Sokolov's Schubert Impromptus Op 90

Wow that articulation.

One of my favorite pianists. Awesome technique, he projects the softest tones to the back of the auditorium. He loves to go behind the beat, loves to bring out the articulation, drops his 250 lbs. on his little finger and his little finger loves it.
Thanks for posting this. I also noticed a YouTube of Rocky II with Sokolov and the Finnish Symphony orchestra that I had not come across, so enjoyed that as well.Practice practice, kids!

Yes, his articulation is quite impressive. Part of it is visual, I guess - it "looks" impressive. But of course it sounds exceptional, too.
I'm usually not a big fan of Brend
Link to videoullel, but his Schubert recordings are admittedly not too shabby either. -
He's not 250. He's easily 320. Trust me on that one.
I really liked how, at about 8:50, just as the 1st impromptu is ending, I got an ad for VRBO. Thanks, YouTube.
If you haven't seen it, watch "Sokolov in Paris." He plays a couple of Beethoven sonatas (Op 11 and 28), and the Prokofiev 7th sonata. Someone (was it Deb?) criticized the Prokofiev because the "agitato" movement was played too slowly. I dunno, I kinda liked the un-rushed approach to it.

250 lbs lol, what an amateur. It’s like, pick a side already. Either lose 75 pounds or gain 100.
OK, Horace. It took me a second, but then I got it.
Now, THAT'S funny!
