Shenanigan! San Francisco let high school seniors return to school for one day only to qualify for the state’s reopening funds.

California announces whopping $75 billion budget surplus

So much surplus that the state has to return money to its residents. Big proposals include means tested direct payments and help for those with past-due rents.

Send the money directly to the landlords.

Just curious: How much money did California get from you and me the federal government because of the pandemic?

So the $600 is like an awesome rebate on my cap gains taxes.

                Education is extremely important.

A more comprehensive look at which states receive how much money from the relief act, also compares how the 2021 formula differed from the 2020 formula:

                  https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/politics/2021/03/04/how-much-money-each-state-would-receive-if-joe-biden-covid-stimulus-bill-passes/6892464002/

Give it another tax reporting cycle ... whatever capital gains taxes that Californians paid to turn the state’s budget into a surplus, they pay even more into the federal coffers based on those very same capital gains. I suspect when the final tally comes out you’d continue to see that California continues to pay more into the federal coffers than it takes out of it.

I think it’s great. I just don’t understand the sudden surprise. I don’t believe in surprises except for the recipient.
