Should I take the trouble to list it? Or just bring it to car max and be done with it?

CarMax. Anything else isn't worth the hassle.

When we got rid of Mrs. George’s 328, the dealer offered $4K less than CarMax. He didn’t believe me, so I showed him the offer. He matched it.

They said they would buy my A6 as well, Lowballled me by $6K. I showed him the CarMax offer and they said they couldn’t match it.

How closely do they check on the car? I have a friend that is looking to sell, but she tells me that the car runs a bit "rough". Does carmax take a mechanic to look over before they buy?

It doesn't matter. They will examine the car and give you a price, in writing, that's good for 7 days. If you can get a better price elsewhere, go for it.

In my opinion, the offer, as I said - in writing, is worth a lot of money, especially when considering the hassle of private sales and/or trade-ins.

D3 had a Hyundai Elantra that she wanted to trade in. The usual suspects (Edmunds, KBB) gave hear a fair price that she could expect. She took it to CarMax and they offered her $1000 more than the other guys' estimates. Guess what she did.

I was shocked. They gave me 7600 for it. That’s almost half what it cost new (before taxes).

For and 8 year old car.

Economy cars really hold their value. At least the reliable ones.

For the Fit? Not bad. You had that in 2014.

But what is the "street price" if you buy that 2013 car today? CarMax wouldn't buy it if they couldn't sell it for more.

                                    Mines a 2013 with 60k.

Bet they list it for over 10,5.

It was under 16 (before tax) new, EIGHT years ago.

That sounds absurdly expensive, even when considering it has only 60k. Who would buy that?
