Instacart

I've been a fan of Instacart, and, for that matter, all kinds of grocery delivery for a long time. I got my first Peapod order back in 1994, LOL.
Instacart shops our local grocers and they have a pretty good selection. I always tip the delivery guy as well.
I was going to place an order yesterday using Jewel (or if you're from Chicago, "The Jewels"). It came to $74 or so. Free delivery if the order is more than $35.
Out of curiosity, I checked Jewel's site - turns out they deliver. I built EXACTLY the same cart, and it was $9 less than Instacart. Interesting. However, delivery is $9 if you want it within a one hour window. But, if you're willing to commit to a 4-hour winds, delivery is $4. Interesting...
Also...
I figured I was money ahead this way. So, I placed an order for today with a 9A to 1P window for delivery. It arrived at 10:55, and the order was fine.
Interestingly, however, the order was delivered via Doordash! It was left in the lobby of my building, and the driver had gone.
What's up with that? Cheaper, no tip, and good delivery.

Instacart has pretty big markups on a lot of things, as does Doordash. I think in both cases it is because the supplier doesn't want to eat all the Instacart fees. Here the Instacart selection is pretty limited. I cannot get what I want.
I use Kroger Clicklist and Meijer online. Both pick and bring out your order to your car for free and I don't see any markup at all. Picked up at both this morning.
