      Saw that earlier.

Interesting. I think she would appeal to the "not Trump" branch of the GOP. She seems to be a pretty solid conservative, and I've enjoyed her take on issues, going years back. The fact that she's a woman doesn't hurt, come 2024 because, well, you know why.

OTOH, 3 years from now, will her never Trump stance be too toxic for the true believers?

      I don't think so.

I doubt that Trump will run again, and as much as he wants to be king queen maker, his brand is too toxic for a lot of people. The GOP will look at someone with serious conservative credit (Cheney or DeSantis) for the nomination. That said, DeSantis has enough Trump on him that he might satisfy the need.

Cheney will go over like a lead balloon down here. I don't see how any GOP primary candidate gets shellacked below the Mason-Dixon and survives.

        DeSantis, FTW.

          Why do you say that?

Other than her never-Trump stance, are there policies with which your area disagrees?

The state party places an emphasis on loyalty to the party or at least keeping your mouth shut, unless it is a hill worth dying on. The ones I've talked to think she hurt Trump on the national stage. People down here do not forget.

                Interesting point.

IOW, you say that people will place her "betrayal" of Trump as a more important issue than her stance on conservative issues?

In this state, and in many other Southern states, Trump won 55-60% of the vote. Among registered Republicans, his numbers were pretty astronomical. People viewed Trump as a conservative.

Yes, I think there will be some palpable hate for Cheney among the party faithful down here. And there will be others in those primaries with similar conservative bona fides.
