We've been sold the idea that masks somehow correlate to tyranny, when in fact it's the very least we can do. The very least.

And it's clearly not just the Democrats who are a bunch of a-holes.

Are the people refusing to wear masks the same ones who are refusing to get vaccinated?

Because, if so, quite a few of them are going to get a reward for their selfishness that they're not counting on.

    I was only joking

As a pragmatic matter, a butt-load of people down here do not wear masks. I was in a building supply store this morning and the only people who had them on were the employees.

The Dems are good at keepin' up the skeer, but that's only going to work for so long, even in the blue states. As COVID deaths go down, masks will no longer be an election issue.

Why do you keep viewing masks as a political issue? I understand that many people have made them political, but it's not a political issue. Do you have any insights to offer about masks not being effective in slowing the spread?

I don't think masks are that effective beyond a certain point, when you have vaccinated people + recovered COVID patients making up a significant portion of the populance.

That is what you say and possibly you are right. I don't necessarily agree and will continue to wear a mask as mandated by the municipality in indoor public spaces until such time the Chief Public Health Officer here states the risk of infection is either in full retreat or has been largely eliminated to the point it is deemed safe not to wear masks.

The anti-mask mantra that opposes the public health recommendations measures regarding masking conveniently fits into a certain political agenda that quite frankly, is based on little other than paranoia and hysteria masquerading as liberty and enlightenment. Sadly, it too has a grip on too many individuals here as well.

        Elbows up!

          1. It is a political issue
          2. There is no simple, reasonable, scientific measurement for when they can come off

Political or emotional reasons are all we have.

          And, of course, insults.

Liberals like masks. Worse, Fauci supports masks. Therefore masks are terrible.

I've seen a number of people claim that masks have nothing to do with safety, and are all about government control. Just as the lockdowns were.

It's certainly hard to argue with that kind of logic.

I wouldn't say that, but there is an element of control. I think the data mines of California vs. Texas and Florida vs. New York are going to be very interesting.

I think we are going to find that masks help, but are really only effective in certain circumstances. I think we already know that fomite transmission has been nothing like we thought it would be.

I also think we are going to find out something we already know...That most masks are improperly fitted, incorrectly worn, overly saturated and are barely better than nothing. OTOH, when done right, I think certain circumstances benefit quite a bit from masking, at certain periods of the pandemic.

It’s more than that. Some rational people were willing to hang on and then after 1/6 those people were lost and now with all the stupid stuff of masks and anti vaxxer those people say I was right to jump ship.
