This opt-out box is kinda gross from the national Republican congress committee.
Is this a common tactic in politics? I've never made a political donation. Do all political parties use these?
To be clear - if you make a donation (but want to have it be one time), you have to uncheck this box (admitting you're a defector), so you don't get charged monthly.

That's absolutely reckless and ridiculous.

Uhm, no, it's not on their webpage or home page. It IS on their donation page on a fundraising platform that you would only arrive at if you clicked on a link to make a donation. The audience is people that already decided to donate. I think tongue is planted a little firmly in cheek...

wrote on 9 Apr 2021, 21:34 last edited by xenon 4 Sept 2021, 21:49You would almost by definition need to be on the donation page to see a box like that. Wouldn’t make sense in any other context.
It’s the big red button when you go on their home page. No scrolling needed
If you scroll down on the home page you see this (taking you to the same page):

wrote on 9 Apr 2021, 21:56 last edited by xenon 4 Sept 2021, 21:57@lufins-dad disagree. That's a scam box. When you buy stuff online there's often a bunch of checkboxes - people are use to ignoring them (usually it just puts you on a email list).
The bolded works are UNCHECK, DEFECTOR, CHECK. Then in small writing below it says "Make this a monthly recurring donation". Which is not really explicitly connect to the check.
That's a clear scam MO. Most people won't fall for it, but it's a game of numbers.

Yeah... So much more offensive than the outright lies about the Georgia election law... So much more more offensive than the way that DeSantis is being slandered...

Everything's okay as long as you can point to something worse from the other side, is that how this works? When are we going to stop keeping score and get back to critical thinking?

Whataboutism is a fine and valid point, after you admit that everybody is biased and it does come down to negotiating price.
