Turns out people don’t choose Gov’t vaccine sites

21 federally supported locations gave 2.5% of shots.
All the rest were administered via pharmacies, mass vaccination county and state sites, and hospital systems.
How many other sites were involved in that 97.5%? Hundreds? Thousands?
What was the distribution across those other entities?

“It’s clear that Americans feel comfortable relying on their local pharmacies for the vaccine,” said one senior Biden health official. “The retail pharmacy program will keep growing and I think you will begin to see more people going down the block to CVS to get the shot than driving maybe an hour to the federal sites to get it.”
The old maxim "location, location, location" applies here.

It also helps that the pharmacies are now providing an easier way to set up an appointment. When they first started giving vaccines, Walgreens, CVS, and Jewel Osco made you look at appointments available at a single location on a given day. None available, move to another day. It was frustrating and tedious. Now they have the "show me the first available appointment for a location within 10 miles of me".
It's all about convenience.

Yea, that was a stroke of genius on his part. Who would have ever thought that people could get vaccinated at a pharmacy?
Maybe they'll expand the program so you can get your influenza, shingles, or pneumonia vaccines at CVS or Walgreens. That would be great.

These pharmacies weren’t set up with the specialized freezers necessary for storing the Pfizer vaccine. Nor did they have the resources available to schedule and coordinate tens of thousands of appointments and secondary visits. They also did not have the resources to screen, inoculate, and monitor patients over 45 minutes, all while maintaining social distancing measures and additional COVID safety measures. To sit here and compare it to the annual flu vaccination drive is insulting and belittles the monumental task these people accomplished in a very short period of time. This wouldn’t have happened this successfully without the business leader summits at the WH and the previous administrations support.

Yeah they approved the vaccines so much faster and went for the first dose strategy.
If we started with the really elderly in November we would be so much further along. Our focus was get Trump out of office so don’t be too harsh on our results.

To be fair, Dartmouth and Brown recently looked at pandemic coverage by the media, pre and post-Trump. The differences were striking. There was a lot more negative coverage, both about the pandemic itself and about Trump's efforts to combat it. After Biden was elected, the number if negative stories dropped, especially those concerning the efforts of the White House.

It’s all righteous partisanship.You won't get any argument from me about the US media, but the media aren't the ones approving and rolling out the vaccine, and deciding who gets vaccinated.
It seems to me that a number of countries allowed the UK to be the canary in the coalmine, and now the UK are getting the benefit there's a lot of complaining from people who who were happy for them to take the risk about how unfair it all is.

It seems to me that a number of countries allowed the UK to be the canary in the coalmine, and now the UK are getting the benefit there's a lot of complaining from people who who were happy for them to take the risk about how unfair it all is.
You know what you know, when you know it. The U.S. may very well have been closely monitoring the U.K. strategy, trying to decide what to do.
And let me remind y'all of something else. For many years, I understood quite well how glacial the FDA could be. I've said many, many times I was shocked at how fast the Trump Administration made them move, both in testing approval and in vaccine approval.

In Boston, my mother and sister had the option to go to a government site
They were afraid to go to the neighborhood where the shots were offered - it was in a a high crime area is the reason. The high crime area is better for politician photo ops
So they went to the suburbs and a non-government site
