I understand why politicians (usually) go to tour somewhere, but in a "practical" way, how does that really help?

President Clinton goes to visit tornado area in XX. Is he going to pick up a shovel and start cleaning debris?

President Bush visits forest fire area in XX. Is he going to pick up a hose and start spraying water?

President Obama visits a hurricane in XX. Is he going to start a bulldozer and clear broken things?

President Trump visits the border. Is he going to pitch in and start building the wall?

Vice President Harris visits the border? Is she going to start throwing people back over the fence or opening the gate to the US?

I DO GET IT WHY THEY DO IT. It is a good photo opportunity and good publicity. But not practical in may ways.

Agreed. Bush (the second) got destroyed over his "insensitive" flyover of the Katrina devastation. In his autobiography he said that was one of his biggest regrets as POTUS.

This photo didn't help, of course.

The administration doesn't want a US Senator sharing what's going on there.
