The quintessential St. Patrick's day movie, it was the only movie ever made by its studio that was nominated for Best Picture.

In the movie, appeared a man who left medical school for a singing career and once replaced Frank Sinatra in Tommy Dorsey's band.

Later in his career, he appeared in over 300 television episodes.

What was the movie and who was the man?

“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

I had an idea of the singer, but I had to cheat to get the movie.

BTW, he's uncredited in that movie...

I bow to your answer, however mine apparently works too, except for the bit about the 300 TV episodes. Dick Haymes replaced Sinatra in the Tommy Dorsey band, and starred in Irish Eyes are Smiling, which was nominated for an Oscar.

                Amazing!

I like the bowing. Add some scraping and groveling and all will be well.
