Late last week (or this week) Apple announced that the iMac Pro was "limited availably" and there was only one configuration available for purchase. As of today, you can't order one.

Today, the original HomePod is discontinued as well.

    I wonder what's up?

As far as the iMac Pro, I always thought it was a really, really, niche product. Powerful, but directed at a very small population. The Mac Pro and the new M1 Macs probably make the iMac Pro irrelevant.

I find the HomePod being cancelled interesting. It got great reviews for audio performance, even though it's pricey ($300). However, I found it tempting (though I never purchased) for those invested in the Apple ecosystem. The introduction of the HomePod Mini this year might be a factor, but the reviews say that, though the audio from the HomePod Mini is very good, it's not in the same league as the original HomePod.

    I wonder what they're planning.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Maybe neither cancellation is due to impending replacement, but merely acknowledging that they are not selling well enough to warrant continuance of the product lines.
