One of our neighbors have a super similar family to ours.

They're transplants to Seattle (moved from Minnesota actually). A newborn, a pre-schooler. Lovely people. Gave us such a warm welcome when we moved.

The guy's been struggling with back pain for 2 months now. Been getting worse, not better. Recently his neck started bothering him.

Finally got an MRI after a couple of months yesterday. Renal cancer, spread to multiple spots around his spine and neck.

    Just sad.

            Heartbreaking.

I know someone who almost died in a motorcycle accident. They discovered renal cancer but it is was so early they only had to remove the kidney.

Net is the accident saved his life.

I'm sorry to hear this, Xenon. It is heartbreaking.

It's cliche - but things like this make you hug your family extra tight.

To be so close to this does bring it so home. I suspect you are an amazing neighbor in this situation.

@xenon one of my former colleagues, a lady from Australia, started complaining of back pain about after a year after I left the university. Being an anesthesiologist who specialized in spine surgery, she naturally went to see the ortho surgeon with whom she worked frequently.

Radiographs were non-diagnostic, other than showing arthritis. He suggested NSAIDS, which she started taking.

It was renal cell carcinoma, and she was dead in a year.

So sorry to hear of your neighbor's travails. Be a good neighbor and support as much as you can.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

That's the kind of story that takes your breath away. I cannot imagine how overwhelmed they must be.

Whatever you can do to show you care will be appreciated.

These stories make me more nervous than they did years ago. These will certainly be tough days for him and his family - your friendship and support will be appreciated.

It shouldn't make a difference, but it seems more heartbreaking because the kids are so young.

Sorry to hear the bad news Xe. Your neighborhood must be very nice.
