So they’ve decided on a one-day drive up primary at a single location for the whole state.

Does that seem odd or what? Virginia is a big state.

LD, would you drive to Lynchburg?

It’s a convention, not a primary. That’s a pretty big distinction. Whether it should be a convention is another topic.

The VA Republican Party is a joke.

Call it what you will, there’s a vote going on there open to all Republicans that will determine who the gubernatorial candidate and other statewide candidates are.

Among the candidates for governor, Sen. Amanda Chase, R-Chesterfield, was not impressed. A single-location convention will include far fewer participants than other options would have.

“I would like the VA GOP State Central Committee to answer a question,” she tweeted during the meeting. “1,962,430 voters voted for President Trump in Virginia. How are you going to accommodate these people who will want to cast a vote for our statewide candidates?”

I would have thought a great way to get Americans to vote would be to make elections drive-thru's.

          I was only joking

My understanding is that it’s not open to just anybody who wants to show up, but instead to delegates. Some of the candidates wanted to open it up to everybody and anybody, but they lost.

The article is a little confusing.

Would an accurate read be that in the past the primary was an election process on a specific day by voters and this year it will be done by delegates voting in a drive in at Liberty U?

@loki No, the Republican GOP has done conventions with delegates in the past. Heck, they did it last year in regards to the state offices... The difference is this year the delegates have only one location to cast their ballot. In the past, delegates in each county would turn in their ballots locally.

The only reason why this is getting media attention is because Amanda Chase is one of the two possible GOP Gubernatorial candidates. Chase is a Trumpster in the worst connotation. She’s doomed in a convention, but could win a populist primary. Hit opponent Cox is an establishment Republican that wouldn’t be nearly as exciting to the Trump crowd in a Primary. After 2020, there is an opportunity for Republicans to win ground back in Virginia, but not if Chase is heading up the ticket, so the media is going to make hay over this.

I'm ok with bringing back the smokey rooms. Or in this case, the parking lots.

Sounds like the Virginia GOP is getting it’s act together. Love the media, dammed if the GOP censures a non Trumpster, damned if they find a way to prevent a Trumpster from winning. Lol
