He set it up, Aqua. He fomented discord, filmed it and sold it.
Nobody wants to focus on the discord. What we want to do is focus on how blown-out-of-proportion the MSM has been with covering the event. That's so obviously the bigger concern, judging from the articles and posts shared here in the past month.
So if the event wasn't really that much of an issue and the really bad thing is how the MSM covered it, what does it matter what this guy did? Why are we getting mad at him? He recorded people trespassing and sold it to a rabid MSM.

I think you're missing Aqua's point.
This is a diversionary tactic by those on the right to downplay what happened and somehow make it the fault of libtards.
We all know who's to blame for this.

Obviously, mis-reporting matters. But some people (not you) are claiming that the entire riot was nothing of importance, and then shouting about media mis-characterisation, which is highly dishonest.
The idea that this was all a big nothingburger is pretty stupid. As is the idea that it had nothing to do with Donald Trump's spurious claims about the election being stolen.
The media coverage in this case isn't helping the situation at all, but that doesn't mean it was already pretty bad.

It's not news. It's spreading spreading emotional gasoline that was in this case distributed by the Washington Times. And the ultimate irony is that this is happening while in the context of vilifying the liberal media for doing that very thing.
George said in a previous thread that he expects some kind of objectivity in news reporting. I just can't get behind that. I feel like at this point, getting incensed about biased news is tantamount to trying to convince people that slavery was bad. The Post or even Fox News isn't the Washington Times' competition. It's Facebook, Instagram and the Bed Bath & Beyond newsletter. Both CNN and the Times need you to be more outraged by their headlines than you are excited about the upcoming weekend sale at Home Depot, that's how they keep the lights on. We're all sitting here discussing news articles as if they were written thirty years ago.

I, for one, am sick of this shit.
What Donald Trump did was absolutely disgusting. People who pretend otherwise should be ashamed of themselves.

You're asking for an awful lot.

What, not being able to admit to losing? Careful, you have friends who have that personality trait as well.

I am too.
Did American conservatives sign some kind of contractual obligation to find ways to downplay January 6, and judge every BLM protest and participant by the asshats who did the most damage, affiliated or no? Did American liberals sign some kind of similar agreement with reverse terms?
When commentary about an article has an emotional slant that matches that of the biased article itself—that is to say, any article published today—it's hard for me to pay attention.

So, don't pay attention.
I've long since come to terms that that stuff matters, and commentary by some individual such as myself is the best vote they can cast.

No, what he did was inflame a mob, both in person and virtual. Gullible folks attacked the Capitol, and firmly believe the election was stolen not because there's any evidence, but of what he repeatedly said.
He's a grotesque charlatan. Anybody should be able to see it.

What did he do?

It's right out the Vladimir Putin book on deception and provocation. Of course there had to be an agent provocateur from the "other side" behind all this misunderstanding and mayhem.
