Why I like the math puzzles
-
The kind of math I need for my job right now is very different from things I learned at school or college. I've never liked calculus or geometry. In college, I concentrated on numerical methods and discrete mathematics. But these days, I mostly need the most abstract kinds of mathematics: universal algebra, category theory, type theory and logic. On the side, I try to learn more about statistics (measure theory etc.). The math concept that currently blows my mind is duality. If I keep doing puzzles here, it's not impossible that I'll be co-opted as a math professor in our math department within the next years. I'll submit my participation here in my application materials.

I once attempted a menagerie, but was ejected from the zoo before completion occurred, and told quite firmly not to return.
