We're heading out for three or four weeks and I was concerned - what if we had a power outage, etc. and all the freezer stuff thawed then refroze? How would I know?

So of course I did a search and came up with this nifty idea - put a ziplock with a coupe ice cubes in each freezer. If they are still solid and in the same shape when you get back all is well. If they have melted and refroze, start pitching.

May be well known, but I had never heard of it.

Used to let half a Dixie cup of water freeze then put a quarter on top of it.

Now my freezer warns if the temperature dropped below freezing and for how long.

      You were warned.

Like both ideas. Simple and intuitive.
