I’m curious...

It's the same for far-left. It's anyone who disparages liberal ideas because of their political affiliation, not on the merits of the ideas themselves. And for the record I think those people are too stupid to vote.

As if a far-right idea could have merits
Funny

When used in popular media, far-right means white supremacist.
What does far-left mean? I don't really know, I don't see that term used much in popular media. Maybe the gang of four. Certainly, less odious than whatever it is far-right means in the heads of readers of popular media.

Right now in North America and much of Europe, the far-right and white supremacy or xenophobic nationalism tend to define the various factions of the movement. Libertarianism also appears to play a role, or at least provides an identity, among far right adherents. Far-right in the Islamic world tends towards religious fanaticism as in the case of ISIS or authoritarian theocracy as in Iran. Arguably too the Ba'athist movement which ruled Iraq under Saddam Hussein and Syria under the Assads , while primarily secular in character, is a far-right Arab nationalist ideology. Others could argue that Erdogan's Turkey is moving in a direction towards a right wing extreme that is similar to Putin's Russia.
Likewise with the left. The extreme left in the west has moved away from the various Marxist ideologies of the 19th and 20th centuries and towards an amalgam of utopian socialist ideas coupled with textbook anarchism that is every bit as intolerant of diversity as its far right opposite. Outside of North America and Western Europe though the extreme left remains anchored to the orthodoxy of Marxism, usually of a Leninist character, as seen in the states of the former Soviet Union, PRC and North Korea.
