I do not know who Matthew McConaughey is, but intend to look up his movies. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Read the book he talks about in the episode. It's awesome. It's a look at his daily journals from the past 36 years.
I never read freaking celebrity bios, much less autobios, but I kept hearing how good it was from people who (1) recommend good books and (2) would never agree to anything if you put them in a room together.
Worth the read.

seems to be firing on about half of his cylinders
Indeed - having just watched/listened to the first couple of minutes.
I've always enjoyed McConaughey's work.
Looking forward to hearing the rest of the discussion.

What I love is how McConaughey starts to drop his guard because of Peterson's thoughtful and appropriate at many levels questions and comments. It's watching a clinical psychologist at work I guess, very carefully gauging the person, the issues, and the tenor of the conversation while he probes.
And Peterson read the damn book, slowly and with interest I would harpen to guess! There is that. And Grammarly tells me there is no word such as "harpen."
Need Aqua help. I would harpen to guess he's busy. -
Do you mean hazard a guess?

OK. I'll go with that, thanks.

I listened to the book a couple weeks ago and was pleased to see that Peterson interviewed him. Pleased to see he would consent to the interview, I suspect many hollywood stars and their publicists would blanch at the association with this allegedly "alt right" icon. But it's not so surprising once you read the book.

So, what's his best movie from the viewpoint of forum members that know of his work and watch a lot of movies?
Interstellar. Full stop.

This begins with Matthew outside. Things get much more intriguing when they move inside.
Anyway, for those that follow Jordan Peterson, who is back but seems to be firing on about half of his cylinders, and for those who follow McConaughey, for those that follow both, and for those that need to get a life outside of watching youtube videos:

Kubo and the Two Strings (animated)
And one I think is a little overlooked... Sahara . But I like the novels...

True Detective (Season 1)
Yeah I forgot about that one. So excellent.

Louis CK made a joke about a movie called Magic Mike. It's about male strippers. He "plays a game of chicken" with the movie whenever it's on TV. He can't watch the whole thing and he doesn't know how it ends, but he knows how it ends. It ends with him being gay.

Sahara
It's too bad he didn't make a lot more Cussler movies.

MM was filming a movie around Baton Rouge several years ago. He likes boiled crawfish and seafood, and used to frequent a hole-in-the-wall place my SIL and her husband ate at pretty frequently. He kept things very low key, driving around town in an old, beat up pickup, wearing boots, jeans, a t-shirt and a trucker's cap.
It was kind of a point of pride in the place, that pretty much everybody knew who he was, but didn't bother him other than to say hello if they walked by his table in the back.

I'm guessing that was when he was doing True Detective?

Got me.
He finally had to quit dropping by, when The Baton Rouge Advocate did a story on him.
One more tidbit to the story...When he did Free State of Jones, which was filmed at Clinton, my nephew got a single line bit part, because McConaughey remembered him (my nephew has a pretty impressive red beard). His part was edited out in the final cut and the only appearance my nephew makes is as the body of a dead Union soldier.
