PC Magazine rated this one #1 for photo printing:
    https://www.amazon.com/Canon-imagePROGRAF-PRO-1000-Professional-Photographic/dp/B017S2ZUPW/

You can buy ink cartridges separately:
    https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/imageprograf-pro-1000-compatible-inks

    Good luck!

    @axtremus no document feeder!

My photo printing needs are pretty low-level.

@axtremus and it's a bit more than I want to spend.

The one with cheapest ink costs and keeps running when one color is used up!

The link to the $2.5k printer was a joke.

Same here, actually. I just use a multi function color laser printer and not bother with optimizing anything for photo printing. I just figure that if I ever need a professional quality photo print, I'll just use some third party service like Walmart or CVS, but I haven't any need to print physical photos for many years.

I use the Dell C2665dnf Color MFP that I wouldn't mind recommending except it's discontinued. :man-shrugging:

            $0.09 per for 4x6 prints

Maybe a dollar or 2 for shipping

I have used them for 5 or 10 at a time

While mentioning printers, it is time for me to get a new b&w laser printer - don't need feeder - would like wifi capability. I've used an HP 1022 forever - outlasted two other printers but lacks wifi.

I've been using EZ-ink in a Canon ink jet.

                Cheap as dirt.

I kept an HP laser jet 1320 which is black and white only and fast. I have had a number of color and I detest them all. Anything in the that 75-150 range I detest. It’s like they give you a free coke machine and then make you buy their coke. And they constantly make you spend more money.

I have two printers. My HP Laserjet has been the workhorse of my household (it's a P1606, iirc) and I've had it for more than 10 years. Great printer - dual paper trays, fast, reliable, and trouble-free.

The color is for those "once in a while" things. I'd like to be able to print a 5 X 7 or 4 X 6 photo every now and then, of course.

Also, my color printer is what I use for scanning, etc.

I suppose I could invest in an AIO B&W laser, and get a standalone color, but I'd hate to get rid of the laser which is working just fine.

I went with a refurb HP Envy 7855. List price is about $230 and I got one for $110.

Carts are expensive, and there are only two - black and "tri-color." I printed one color photo, and it was very nice. Very nice, indeed.

However, my default is the laser, and I think this will be a nice, inexpensive option in the long term. I chose this because of the scanning feature (paper feed) of 30 pages and the price. If I find I'm using more than I expected, I'll go with the HP "Instant Ink" option which is available.

Amazon. It was the only one at that ridiculously low price.
