A Capitol Police officer who responded to the deadly riots in Washington last week died by an apparent suicide on Saturday, according to multiple news reports, as the department struggles to fully recover from the devastating and destructive siege carried out by pro-Trump extremists.
Howard B. Liebengood, 51, worked in the Senate Division and had been assigned with the force since April 2005. He is the son of the late Sergeant of Arms Howard S. Liebengood, who died in 2005.

I'm sure there was no other reason for the man to kill himself.

Sad, but not a casualty of the day.

It may have been a point that put him "over the edge", but unfortunately, he probably had problems previous to this.

If one of the protestors subsequently killed himself, would that be another casualty of the day?

Very sad. It drags your heart down. It does seem like an over-the-edge kind of thing, though. You're oppressed by other issues, then you witness the terminal stupidity of the attack on an institution you've devoted your working life to for 15 years. Maybe he just lost all hope.

Maybe.
Maybe he was a leftover Heaven's Gate follower and he thought he'd better join his group before the aliens were gone.
Maybe he thought he was Wile E Coyote and his head would just grow back.

Maybe he thought he was Wile E Coyote and his head would just grow back.Sure. It could be so many things. I might have been projecting just a wee tiny bit there.
