New Tricks on Amazon Prime.
Retired detectives brought back to investigate old cases
Great bunch of character actors.
Definitely worth a watch.

I watched the first few when it was originally on TV, and then they stopped showing them over here.

This is quite a light hearted one, but the first episode at least was well worth watching. The acting is great.

Thanks for the recommendation, Phibes. Hope I enjoy it.
I've become somewhat disillusioned with some of the British detective shows. Endeavour, in particular, has, for me at least, become sort of a drag.
Each episode begins with a prologue, with random people doing random things that make no sense.
Then there's a body.
Then Morse and Thursday jump through hoops to figure it out, and mirabile dictu!, it's one of the random people we saw about an hour ago.
I don't recall "Morse" or "Foyle" being as obscure. I've had to re-watch some of the preludes of "Endeavour" to say, "Oh, yeah! It was that guy."
I really preferred a story like Broadchurch with an arc that reaches over several episodes. "Endeavour" tries to do that with some side stories (Thursday's marriage, for example).

Great show. Always tried not to miss it when it played on on TV here.
Really liked Foyle's War and George Gently too - have the all the DVD's for both series. Also have most of DCI Banks - really like the first three or four seasons.
And for something lighter, Death in Paradise is a real fun watch as well.

@renauda Foyle's War was probably the best of that whole genre. As the director said, "Michael Kitchen could do more with a raised eyebrow than most actors could do with a page of script."
I've always looked for a worthy follow-up, and only the original Morse came close. Lewis was a close third.
I'll have to give New Tricks a look, now that I'm Viking'ed out.

For something a little darker, Luther's worth a watch, starring Idris Elba. Wallander is also very good, with Kenneth Branagh - there's also a Swedish version, which is the original.

Tried it, but just couldn't get into it, despite the wonderful Ruth Wilson.

I enjoyed it quite a bit too. Kind of depressing but I thought quite well done.
