Huntin' Kitty

Getting tired of doing away with cats.
Kitty is old for an outside cat...She came here around eight years ago and she was full grown back then. She's always been a great mouser and has earned her keep. She also threw good kittens, mild mannered and sociable. I can think of a dozen or more families that have one or more of her offspring.
She had kittens five days ago and wouldn't suckle them. That's highly unusual for her, she's an excellent mother. I wound up killing the three kittens, they were starving. She's moped around my shop since then, mostly lying on the Kubota seat or curled up in her box where she had the kittens. Didn't seem to be in any pain or great discomfort, but she wouldn't eat or drink, except for the day she delivered.
She just kind of slowly wound down. The wife has been checking on her a few times a day, as she got weaker and her breath became more shallow. Even this morning, though, she still would purr when you petted her.
Kitty died this afternoon. I just buried her.
That's two grown cats and eight kittens in a week...

It's cats, not people. Trivial, in light of the losses in some of the families that I know.
Kitty will be missed, just like any good animal around the place. I buried her next to Oreo, my border collie that died at 16, a couple of years back. They were buddies in life and I reckon they'll enjoy each other's company...

Sometimes we purr when we're feeling miserable. It's a way of finding comfort. People tend to assume that we purr when we're happy and content. My sister Maggie purrs when she's scared.
Nevertheless, Jolly, I'm sad to see one of my sisters pass. You've been a good dad to all of your animals. You should take pride in that.
RIP, Kitty.

That's a hard thing to have to do, especially when there is already plenty of worry and stress in life. I hope there are plenty of her offspring from prior years still around to ease the loss and keep the rodents under control for you. They'll be tribute to Kitty's good mothering.
