That's as of now. I wonder what it'll look like in the rest of the country a month from now. Why is California so different from, say, Florida?

Just looked. Seems that California cases are on the decline, having peaked around Dec 23:

I think the 12/23 decline is a holiday-related reporting decline. I suspect CA has yet to level off.

And I'd bet dollars to donuts that B117 has now taken off, at least in SoCal.

I agree with Jon about the holiday reporting. Many health organizations are still anticipating the worse. One network has told their staff that all vacations for January are cancelled. They need all the staff they can get.

I think there are small anomalies created by day of week and vacations but I also think that closing everything up has impacts.
