I really wonder about the timing.
I mean, 5 weeks more? How does that make a difference, other than to decrease his Zantac consumption?

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Well, the charitable interpretation is he really wants to take a break over Christmas/New Years, which is probably more or less impossible while holding that job.
For him personally there's no downside in leaving on favorable terms a month early. He may also like his #2 and appreciate the opportunity to give him the 'acting AG' title, which he can carry for the rest of his life.
Obviously there are plenty of less charitable interpretations. But absent some contrary evidence, I'll go with the above.

So ironic, his whole tenure was spent covering for Trump. Trumpsters loved him. Now, since Trump is mad that Barr couldn't find any fraud and didn't tell the world about investigating Hunter, he's a total turd ball, and the Trumpsters fall right in line. Now they despise him. Hate to be Barr right now, despised by both sides.
