    Nine identical planks, each 1 meter in length, are stacked with the bottom plank nailed to the floor , as shown below. Can you move the eight other planks to achieve the maximum overhang for the top plank? Will that overhand be sufficient for the mouse to cross over the planks to reach the cheese on a platform 1.4 meters away?

    (just to make clear, distance between the bottom plank and green platform is 1.4 meter. Did not show up very well in the pic.)

      Maximum overhead is 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/6 + ... + 1/18 = 1.4145.

        @Klaus ||I think you stop at 1/16, which would give the total distance of 1.358 m, just short of the total distance needed.||

          Ah, right. I forgot that one needs a bottom plank. With 10 planks, my result would be correct.
