Yeah. I've mostly stopped using ebay.

If I want to get rid of my junk, I usually use "ebay kleinanzeigen" these days. It's a little like Craigslist. It's just a list of classified ads; ebay or any other company is not involved in the actual transaction. And of course I don't accept Paypal (fool me once, shame on me. fool me twice...). Cash or bank transfer only.

I've sold a fair amount on ebay with only one non-payer. My favorite story is of a woman who ordered a poster I had. The post office lost the piece for a 3 weeks. After two weeks, I refunded her money AND sent her a second copy of the poster. The second poster was sealed so I never saw it. She said it was damaged upon arrival. Then the poster that the post office lost got delivered - but she said it wasn't quite like the picture. A week later said she was going to report me to ebay. I sent her a note and said, "I paid $24 to send you two posters. You paid NOTHING. What is your case?" The world has some strange people.

Yeah, I think I'll move to Facebook Marketplace. It's a face-to-face transaction, but it's cash only. THat's worked for me recently.

I've only had two - both in the last 6 months. I've sold a lot, and I mean A LOT, on eBay as well.

I've used Facebook Marketplace with some success as well. There's also a neighborhood app I've used with less success. I hope at some point to be able to do a yard sale to just get rid of some carp that's around. And I have a lot of carp to part with.

@kluurs my carp is bit-by-bit. Not enough for a yard sale. Just an occasional item every now and then.

@George-K I've had very good luck with both Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. Nothing good to say about LetGo.

I've had three items up for sale on eBay in the last month. All three sold, and all three of them had non-paying bidders. One, when re-listed got sold and I got the cash. It was an Apple Watch - Series 2.

I sold an iPhone 6s last month - $70. After fees, etc, I would have netted about $63. Buyer never paid. Sold it on FB Marketplace today - $75 cash.

I sold an iPhone 8 last week - $152. After fees, etc, I would have netted about $137. Buyer never paid. Sold it on FB Marketplace today - $200 cash.

                    Why even bother?

The only hassle with FB marketplace is dealing with questions and having non-showing buyers. I'm only about a 5 minute walk from where we say we'll meet, so it's no biggie.

                    F eBay.

I've only had one non-payer on ebay. I've used FB Marketplace and get a lot of "Is this avaliable" - and then never hear from them again. I was trying to sell a large vintage doctor's office scale. Someone else on FB had an identical one for $200. I offered mine for $60. Didn't sell. Marked it down $45, $30, $25, $20. Finally sold for $20 to someone who probably would have paid $60 - very happy buyer.

I had a toy truck for sale - for a reasonable price of $55. Ebay had it for much more so I knew I had it priced to sell. I had a guy ask if I'd take $45. "Nope." So I raised the price to $65, thinking I'd could get negotiated down to $55. Of course, I had someone pay me the $65 - because it was still a good deal.

                        I have questions.

If you don't take it, it can only good happen.
