At our age, there’s no reason to be shackled by all of these things. Liquidity is great.

Congratulations, Larry.
My wife has been pushing hard to move out of the country. Not just a bit, but really in a sustained way. My transplant complicate things though.

What is her motivation?

Agreed - nice spot to be in.
My only point of reference is Canada. I know a handful of folks who've moved to Canada from the U.S. for... political reasons (for lack of a better term).
I haven't lived in the country for 7 years, But it felt like politics looms less large in peoples' lives there (it could have changed recently).
I think part of this is that there's no grand narrative wrapped up in the national identity. Canadians know they're a small part of the world community. They have strengths, but as a resource economy they're also subject to forces beyond their control. (And in truth every country and everyone is)
There's less of an "aura" around the powers of the people in charge.
Another point though is - all countries have their bullshit, I don't think you'll find a practically better one than the U.S.. But I guess I have to tell myself that to justify my own decisions.

Related to this election, or the one before it, or more generally?

George, Klaus - for some time now. At least six months. Not tied to this election.
She has the same concerns I do, probably weight a bit differently.

I have a cousin Susan whose husband died around 2 years or so ago. They rent a house from me that sits on 20 acres. When Frank was alive they had no trouble paying their rent. After he died though, Suzie has struggled a little, and I told her not to worry about it, if she had it fine, if she didn't have it, that's fine too.
Yesterday I had the deed transferred to her with a selling price of one dollar. I'm going to discreetly give her the deed on Thanksgiving. We're all getting together at her house for dinner..
I hope she has a dollar on her........

@larry. Good for you.
️
I always have hope that I will be able to “slow travel”. To go somewhere for a few months, get settled so it does not feel like I am a tourist. Stay longer if I want or try somewhere new.
Maybe do that with a “home base” to come back to.

What will you "do", Larry?
You're young in terms of retirees.
And I don't mean in terms of something grandiose. I think I'd be fully happy cooking meals and sharing them with family / friends.

Most important, Larry. How is mom doing? I hope she's well. Any thoughts of where you'd like to end up?
