Disagreed. I want my kids to have good teachers. Why should I object to a teacher who worked legally in the sex industry in the past, if she is a good teacher? Prudery?

Disagree all you want, but yours is an outlier opinion. I'm not saying it should be, but that's the way it is.

    Maybe in the US.

I've read of several former prostitutes who became teacher over here. It's not so uncommon for female students to finance their studies that way. It's no big deal.

      Judgement.

It shows a society's poor judgement when a competent teacher is prevented from teaching just because said teacher also worked in the sex industry in the past. Such prudery wastes human talents.

It's a competitive world -- if you have two equally qualified candidates, one with a sketchy past, and one without, you hire the one without. The world is full of talented human beings, your position would make sense if that talent was in dire need, otherwise it seems more obvious that she wasted her own opportunities and truncated her own future by poor choices which made her less competitive. People do this all the time on a whole range of decisions.

I'm sure her considerable talents lie elsewhere... πŸ˜‰

Agreed. But what if the one with the sketchy past is more qualified?

Qualifications are very good on paper, but at least as important is how someone presents themself. I have frequently hired the less qualified individual who I felt had the chutzpah to learn quickly and be an asset to the team. You can teach technical skills. Teaching interpersonal relations and drive is a lot harder. I have also had to fire people who were very qualified to the point where they felt they knew better than anyone else there.

People do things to survive - and if that's what she had to do - so be it, but she should have shown more discretion in sharing that information.

I definitely would agree that survival is a very good reason but I would have to understand why doing this was necessary for survival.

People are routinely cancelled, deplatformed, lose their jobs etc for their politics but this is okay? Please walk me through that someone.

Yes. I question why someone who has gotten to be a grad student has to sell their body and integrity to survive. Student loans are just not that tough to get. I think it safe to assume that this was simply a way she found more convenient and lucrative. I'd sure never marry her.

What kind of a teacher do you think I am?

                We've already established that.

I have no doubt a good prostitute could teach my boy plenty but that’s not what school is for.

@Klaus She's in NYC. Should be able to find several thousand applicants as or more qualified without a sketchy past.

I'm sure her interpersonal relational skills, technical skills, and willingness to do what the job requires are all first rate...

Why do you assume that sex work means the selling one's integrity? Selling with lies is selling one's integrity. A telemarketer scamming unsuspecting consumers is selling his integrity. A promoter selling "investment products" with lies is selling his integrity. Selling sex per se is not selling one's integrity.

You want to talk about 'selling their body', talk about football players and pugilists -- they routinely engage in physical activities with very high risks of bodily injuries. When done for a paycheck or a scholarship, that's literally "selling their body".

I see no ground to judge prostitutes any more harshly than salespeople or athletes.

Of course you don't. You would have no problem with your sons working as blowjob hustlers to get through school.
