Holy crap this is so easy. Plug in SD card, open Lightroom on the iPad, import. Cloud backup is automatic and I can start editing in seconds.

I've heard that you can't do this with a Sony camera due to the file system, but Fujis work just fine.

Also, these things are weird. Active noise cancelling takes getting used to.

Isn't photo editing and management on the iPad a little slow? I imagine it doesn't have enough storage to store many full-res photos/videos, so you often have to load things from elsewhere, which takes a long time.

        Nope, it's completely fine.

It's because of how Lightroom works. The mobile version uses cloud backup by default, and you can link those folders up to Lightroom Classic if you want. Anyway, the original file is saved on the cloud, but that's not what you're editing—you're editing a much scaled-down version of the photo. It only applies the edits to the original when you export, which can take about 20 seconds, depending on the level of edits and your internet connection.

Capture One's the superior editing tool, but it doesn't have this capability, so I never use it. For more hardcore edits I just import in Photoshop, which is also pretty damn seamless.

        Please love yourself.

But for photo editing, you often want to zoom in to the highest detail level. How does this work, then?

It notices when you're trying to do that and pulls that part of the original in, so you can see. Takes like half a second, then it's ready to go; edit away. You also have the option to download the original for editing, which Lightroom stores in its memory. It remembers the last 10 or so photos you've pulled this way so if you come back to them, you don't have to redownload them.

With this system, I don't store any of my photos on the iPad. No need.

            Please love yourself.

and pulls that part of the original in,

Only that part? That sounds amazing, but it would require a storage system that is tailored for photo editing, such that you can load specific parts of an image. For instance, I assume you couldn't use RAW files on a Google Drive or Dropbox(?).

The photos I import are all RAW, straight from the SD card. RAF and DNG files are fine, too. The tricky part is the Lightroom library. Dropbox would definitely work, although you might have to use a desktop to import from there. Google Drive, maybe.

I should say that it doesn't read the files from Dropbox—it imports from there and creates its own cloud library. So you have to be okay with Lightroom running your photo organization for you.

Lightroom Classic is a little more flexible but it's the same idea.

                Please love yourself.

@Klaus here's the marketing page for Lightroom. Gives a decent overview, and the Adobe forums are a good place to find very specific answers.
