So the Thai coconut industry is getting hammered thanks to PETA getting major Grocery Chains to stop selling Coconut products because of their Monkey Slaves ...

    On the other side... https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2015/10/19/448960760/monkeys-pick-coconuts-in-thailand-are-they-abused-or-working-animals

    I am curious to what @taiwan_girl knows/thinks...

I have seen the monkeys climb trees to get coconuts and actually thought it was kind of cute. Never really thought about if they were abused or not. 🤷

(off topic monkey story. Was visiting a temple in mid-south Thailand with some friends. We neglected to fold in our side view mirrors on the vehicle. When returned, some monkeys had stole one of the mirrors. Ripped it right out of the frame!!)

I know that there is somewhat of a problem with the elephants that are used in logging business in (mainly) north Thailand. After the elephants are too old or not as efficient, they are often abandoned, which is sad. They really are unable to live in the wild. There are a number of elephant rescue places, but not enough to cover all the needed elephants.

Dumb. You cannot make that monkey go up that tree and get you a coconut if it doesn't want to. Obviously the monkey is getting some reward out of it, making the monkey much more akin to us than slaves. The monkey has obviously made a choice.

What? Did someone get caught spanking their monkey?

              You were warned.

That’s Libersimian to you, lowly primate.

Good point. This could all be a big misunderstanding.
