Excellent article from Bari Weiss (who has left the NYT a few months ago).

This seems similar to what happened in the British Labour Party, which traditionally would have been thought of as being one of the good guys in the fight against anti-semitism, but which more recently seemed very reluctant to confront the issue within its own ranks.
Numbers of traditional Jewish Labour voters, including some high profile names, have refused to support Labour.

I don’t know what’s going on on campuses., but the fact the Biden, as old and boring and as unimpressive as he is, as a centrist, outdid and out voted the left wing of the party, makes me think there is still a very solid basic centrist bloc.
Which includes also the traditional conservatives on the right, who are distancing themselves from the chaos of trump.
I still believe in the so called silent majority. I hope I’m right.

Normal people are still all pretty normal in my experience.
All the noise gets made by the looney-tunes, so it's easy to forget that the country isn't completely filled with over-the-top Trumpists and hard left AOC supporters.

Normal people are taking notes, though, and they're changing their behavior, too.

It starts with the idea that telling horrible racist jokes is not OK, and then ends up with the idea that saying anything that goes against the group-think is not OK.
As with so many things, a good idea gets radicalized until it's a bad idea.

I think if we had a parliamentary system we’d have a good chance of forming a centrist party, leaving the Trumpists and leftists in minority parties.

The "Trumpists" as you call them voted in a man who has done more good for this country in 4 years than all the other presidents since Clinton infested the White House combined.
Pick a side. Anyone who still thinks they're a centrist sre deluding themselves.

Just as long as you get a British/Canadian style parliament, and not an Italian style one.
You do have a lot of highly excitable types over here, after all.

The silent majority is very much the same. When they're hauled into an all-hands meeting and told to admit to being a racist in front of everyone or lose their job, they're going to do whatever they need to do to make the aggressors happy and stay employed. That's exactly how this shit has worked in the past. By the time the mob radicalizes further and comes for them anyway, it'll be too late to fix anything.
