So this image has been circulating social media meant as an indictment on Trump, but I see it as more of an indictment on Obama... What do you think?

It was from his book. 1099 income. Not a lot of fancy deduction opportunities.

That $750 in 2017 amount is making headlines.

But I'm looking at the Times story and it says

Each time, he requested an extension to file his 1040; and each time, he made the required payment to the I.R.S. for income taxes he might owe — $1 million for 2016 and $4.2 million for 2017. But virtually all of that liability was washed away when he eventually filed, and most of the payments were rolled forward to cover potential taxes in future years.

So, he paid $4.2 million in 2017

But "virtually all of that liability was washed away"

What kind of statement is that? virtually? washed away?

There is an indication that the $750 was the amount owed on tax day, but he had already paid $4.2 million.

I can't say I understand what the nyt is saying, but it looks to me like they might be stretching the facts.

SO that mean he "overpaid" and didn't ask for a refund, rather rolled it forward. I do it every year, albeit with smaller numbers.

So Trump loaned the US $4,000,000 interest free to indefinitely. He’s a helluva guy!

There are a lot of businessmen who would sell their souls to achieve what Mr. Trump has achieved.

By almost any measure he is very successful.

For example, the presidency is a prize that has eluded many talented people.

He did sell his soul. Why do you think he's in such horrendous debt?

            I was only joking

                What part is the trick?

Are the 1040's faked? The article is about his businesses. He makes most of his profit on a couple of good properties and Apprentice royalties. Then he plows the money into the money pits (like the golf courses).

                It's just interesting info.

It's just another opportunity for you Trump bashers to engage in your usual mental midgetry. "Oooooh, he only paid 750 bucks in taxes! Orange man bad!!" Then you find out he actually paid millions in taxes. What do you do? Ignore that and switch to "his golf courses are money pits!" When you find out that's not true either, you'll switch to yet another bit of nuttery and never bat an eye.

It pisses me off that our "news media" works in conjunction with the Socialist Party to produce propaganda. It pisses me off even more to see how fucking gullible so many people are that they don't just fall for this daily dose of stupidity, but seem to enjoy being a fucking moron.

What 1040s? As far as ai can tell they haven’t actually published us. Just said “We’ve seen them! Trust us.”

No, the returns may be legally in the possession of the source but become illegal once given to The Slimes.

@Jolly I believe what @xenon is saying is that what the NY Times has is probably the actual tax returns.

Maybe they got them illegal, but the actual documents are probably correct.

If the guy cheated on his taxes, lock him up.

If someone disclosed his return illegally, lock him up.

It isn't all that difficult to sort this out.

Eric Trump commented that it took the Biden campaign less than an hour to come up with an ad after the NYT revelation.

Surely, assuming he's telling the truth, that's just a coincidence, right?

@George-K Not really. President Trump tweets moments after news breaks.

I would think that both campaigns have people who do nothing but look at breaking news and answer. President Trumps taxes have been in the news for a long time. It is like when they right about someone dying before they have died. The information is there - they just need to wait for the person to die and they edit a few things and off it goes

Eric Trump commented that it took the Biden campaign less than an hour to come up with an ad after the NYT revelation.

You got a link to that ad?
Is there anything specific about that ad that makes you think it couldn't be done within an hour?

Nope. I just saw him interviewed. Note, I said, "assuming he's telling the truth."

Ah, so it's all hearsay so far.

Looking at it from a technological perspective, given the advancement of digital production and distribution platforms today, be it video or print, I would not be surprised that a new ad can be produced and distributed within an hour. If there is visual gaff happening during the debate, I can envision a new ad featuring that gaff being produced and distributed within an hour of that gaff happening.

Ask Aqua, but I think it humanly impossible to knock an ad together that fast. You've got to script it, get it approved by the campaign, knock the video cut-up together, over-dub it and get it out there.

That's asking a helluva lot in 30 minutes.

Yep. It’s nonsense. Technologically you could do it, yes. Administratively? Never.
