Thinking about flooring.

I'd never install wood anywhere other than bedroom where it has a warm feel. Oak or bamboo may appear beautiful for a week, but hard as they may theoretically be, my experience is they wear all too soon and look worn.
Kitchen and bathrooms I'd consider durable high quality vinyl.
Otherwise porcelain (or ceramic) tiles are my option. -

@George-K The management being Mrs. K? Yeah, if I were you I would pass on Jolly's advice on dealing with management.
Really, I think it would be alright to have the wood. Matching can be done. We matched the color of maple flooring for our new kitchen with salvaged maple flooring from a community center in northern Minnesoooota.
I thought he meant management of the condo. I didn't know he meant the Big Boss. I shall now silently slink away...
LOL, Jolly! I see you're experienced at dealing with the management.
It could be condo management, but since they own their condo, I suspect the management is a lovely redhead.

I wondered about that. Seemed out of character.

Some of us never wondered.
I wonder why?
Nah, I don't wonder about that either.

Gosh, much of my first grade year was spent gazing out the window. I don't know if I was bored or just lacked focus, maybe both.Thank goodness my teacher didn't give me hell for it, Instead, she would walk by and just touch my shoulder to get me to bring my mind back to the classroom . Life at home was bad, and I had a habit of tuning out like that. She had the patience to make a real difference for me, and I have often wondered what would have happened to me without her.
It was also good for me that I had her for both first and second grades. This was a small school, and each classroom was for two grades. Having her for two years got me off to a good start academically.
Several times, I have tried to find her to thank her. Her last name was Williams, which is just common enough to be difficult to track.

Just now seeing this thread... regarding oak flooring looking good for a week... I've got hardwood all over my house, and there's not a scratch on it anywhere. It looks as good today as it did when I built the place 30 plus years ago. I also have marble in a few places. Not so much as a crack in the grout. It looks just like it did the day it was put down.
My guess is your tile was put down without a separation layer between the tile and the subfloor. Wood expands and contracts, and eventually any tile will fail if there's not a separation layer put down first. It's one of those things that some builders will cheat on if they can. I would get a good tile man in and put down new marble, but go back with 24X24 inch tiles.
