Killin' is my bidness an' bidness is good!😎

Seriously...I'm working on a cup of ☕, while enjoying some Beta rain and the wife rousts me out of my lazy-boy. There's a possum out in the storage room, munching on my 25 pound bag of catfood.

I grab my .22 carbine (short weapons are best for social work) and saunter on outside to the storage room at the end of the carport. The possum has worked his way up into a corner behind some fishing rods, a metal music stand and a keyboard stand

I'm between him and the door and I don't have the patience to fool with him. Easier to mop up the blood and patch the hole. Besides, since I built that wall, I know what's in it. Moved a couple of things, and shot him one-handed. Now, I need to go chunk the carcass to the coyotes.

    So, how is y'all's morning?...

Hummingirds and bunnies. Haven't shot anything yet. But the coffee is hot and good.

Productive (or at least trouble free, drama free) conference calls with competent professionals, with a couple of croissants in the toaster oven that just went "ding!" This morning is about to get even better.

Later, off to get my iPhone looked at - the battery has swollen!

Is it just you or has the quality of Apple’s hardware really gone down since @Horace started owning AAPL?

Well, Horace's need for increasing profit margins undoubtedly has caused AAPL to cut some corners.

                Yeah, let's blame him.

I took it to the Apple store last week and they said they have to send it out.

If it's just a battery repair, it's a $49 repair. For a 3 year old iPhone 8, it's worth doing, particularly when I plan to sell it on eBay and get one of the new ones being announced next week.

Today, I was informed that the repair would be $349 because there are also "cellular connectivity issues."

FFS, I can buy a refurbished iPhone 8 on eBay or W00T for $240.

                  Not worth it.

So, I told them to send it back to me and I'll sell it on eBay for parts. Probably get $80 or so for it.

                  What a PITA.

The iPhone SE (gen2) is a great phone, but it's now a year old, and if I'm going to spring for a new one, I'll go for the iPhone 12. Better camera, better chip, etc.

In this time, I've been using an old iPhone 6S. Remarkable how well it works. But, as I said, the 12 will give faster performance, 5G (though that's not important for me), and a much better camera.

I updated my watch to the Watch SE. EKG and SpO2 are irrelevant to me, and not worth the extra $100. Neither is the "always on" feature.

It's kind of nice to see that you can make choices based on what you think your needs are (EKG, eg), and what you're willing to pay for those needs.

The thing that interests me about the Apple Watch 6 is the idea of seeing what my sats do overnight. Not even anything to do with my transplant, more wondering how good/bad my breathing gets when I’m asleep.

But you can’t really wear an Apple Watch to bed unless you’re prepared to not wear it part of the day. It’s too power hungry. Fitbit just plain kick its ass on battery life.

                        You were warned.

I sleep with my watch on. I take it off when I wake up, usually about 6, and charge it up. Takes about 90 minutes. During that time i shower, dress, have coffee, review the bullshit here news. It becomes a routine, so it's not a hassle at all. I usually still have about 30% on the watch when I start charging, so, depending on activity level, I could see it going 24 hours, easily.

Also, is the SpO2 a constant monitor? I thought it's just a spot-check. If constant, I can see that being a battery hog.

I only have to charge my Fitbit Charge about every five or six days. I was thinking of upgrading to an Apple Watch, but reading this I don't think I'll bother.

                            I was only joking

It's all about what you value and consider important. I love being able to read and respond to a text, see my calendar, answer the phone, count steps, check the weather, play music...and see the time. The display is spectacular as well.

I had (on Jons recommendation) a Charge2. Though it was great, and battery was unbeatable, the features that the Apple Watch offer made it worth it, for me.

By the way, I checked my watch at 6:10 this am, and the batter was at 30%. 35 minutes of charging later, it's up to 75%.

Back to the OP question . . .

My morning is great! Last evening I made my first-ever batch of yogurt; it cured overnight and this morning, viola, I uncovered the pot and it was perfect!

It is now draining, to achieve Greek status. I have no cheesecloth, so am making do with a metal strainer and paper towels. If that doesn't work, no biggie. I'll know what to do next time.
