Fake news. “Install by technician” is too time consuming, too costly, simply cannot scale. The tech industry has been moving away from “tech install” for years, if not decades.

Saw their ad for the new iPhone today - they did an interesting thing, animating the logo leaf as the U of a padlock and having it click shut. Very effecting.

Really? I thought the iPhone's not going to be announced this week. Pushed back to October.

I have an Apple Watch series 4 (which I love). I plan to hand that down to D3 and get the series 6 for myself.

OTOH, I've read rumors that they're announcing a cheaper series 6 without some of the features that I never use. That might be a good choice for me as well.

            It's a T-Mobile ad featuring Apple iPhone:

I found this site where you can order the new iWatch before it's available to the general public. Being able to detect oxygen seems pretty huge. How many lives is that going to save? Probably a lot, but let's face it. If it even saves one life, it's all worth it.

                    I know, I know...

I love my Series 4 Apple watch. I love being able to get and receive texts on it. I love being able to see, with a raise of my wrist, the current temperature, my heart rate, and whatever features I want (like calling home). I was a skeptic on the utility of the iPhone, and even more so of the Apple Watch. I was wrong in both instances. I was surprised at how useful the Apple Watch is.

I was tempted with the series 5, but the only compelling feature was the "always on" feature. However, that didn't induce me to buy, so, last year, I passed.

The series 6 announced today has more features that make it interesting: the "always on," from series 5, improved EKG, and most interestingly, a SpO2 monitor - a pulse oximeter. None of those features are compelling to me either. So, I'm going to pass again.

                    But...

D3 has a series 2 and I'm fearful that she's at the end of upgradability for her watch. So, I pulled the trigger on the Apple Watch SE for myself. It has the same features as my Series 4 (but no EKG) as well as a better processor. Cheaper too, with, hopefully, several years of OS upgrades. I'll hand my Series 4 down to D3 and sell her Series 2 on eBay. I'm sure that some sucker buyer will be interested.

My iPad Air is a version 2. Perfectly functional and use it for nothing that web browsing, Netflix, email and simple games. I see no reason for me to upgrade to either the new iPad Air announced today or the iPad version 8.

                    Next year, perhaps.

                      Next year, perhaps.

That's fair. I know almost everybody else considers it "lame", "uncool", "stupid", "unethical", "evil", or "fascistic" to not upgrade one's Apple products every year, but honestly, I really don't think the people who don't upgrade every year are as terrible as almost everybody else thinks they are. I think in most ways, the people who don't upgrade every year are basically equal with those of us who do.
