They’ve installed machines that looks like a small automatic car wash when you drive in (by size and shape at least) that uses AI to record your exit and entry and apparently looks for damage and compares how it went out to how it comes back.

You don’t stop in it but there are a pair of speed bumps inside it which make sure you go slow.

Here’s the only picture I could find online. In the wild the metal enclosure is deeper - deep enough to get a 360 view of a large car, pickup, or van. And they are installed outside in the lot, not in a garage (at least at RDU).

      That’s 8 jobs gone…

On the other hand, who builds, maintains, and installs these devices? It might create more jobs on the other side…

So now a robot will micro inspect for any and all regular wear and tear blemishes that just might occur while a person rents a vehicle. It will ensure that no one will ever again just pay the rental fee without incurring extra charges on return for what the robot determines is damage to the vehicle.

        Elbows up!

I haven’t has an attendant look over my car for years. But I do take before and after pics or videos. This actually makes sense.

I’ll keep an eye out for any unexpected credit charges.

Exactly. A lot of "backfire" against this and the rental companies.

Misplaced. I've rented hundreds of times and never once been charged for damage.
