    @xenon said in Trump’s sister:

I have very incomplete information - but from what I directly observe the man is a liar, has low integrity and doesn't seem to think about issues very deeply (doesn't mean he can't be effective).

And Maryanne seemed to agree. That's why I found it interesting. It corroborates my personal judgement.

Yes, im aware thats how you see it. Perhaps if you took the time to objectively get more complete information about the man you wouldn't have such an incorrect opinion.

I'm a simple man, Larry. I tend to judge people on character and integrity before other attributes.

I can certainly understand voting for the man if you think abortion, tax cuts, etc. are a moral or survival imperative.

I just don't feel strong enough about policy (or think the President has so much influence there) that it overrides my judgement of his character.

Now if you're trying to convince me that he's actually a good guy... well, let's just agree to disagree.

Go back 30 years ago and listen to interviews with Trump. Go back 40. You will find that the policies he states today are exactly the same as what he said then. He was a darling of the democrats. They adored getting the chance to rub shoulders with him. In fact, right up until he mentioned he might run for president on the Republican ticket the democrats couldn't sing his praises loud enough.

Then he said he was going to run for president as...... a (o the horror!!!) Republican..... and overnight he went from a Hollywood A lister with entertainment wheels and democrat politicians lined up wanting to lick his ass to a dumb, arrogant, etc....

Just like EVERY. OTHER. REPUBLICAN. TO. RUN. FOR. THE. OFFICE.

And of course, the steeple took their cue and gleefully fell in line to peck the chicken.

If you're going to judge a man on his character and integrity, then have the decency to learn something about his character and decency before you judge.

As for your view that abortion, tax cuts, etc are less important than your flawed opinion of the man's character, then all I can say is I feel sorry for you.

And yes, he actually IS a decent man. Before you say he's not, lay your own flaws on the table.

For me it was pretty clear early on: denigrating POWs, scamming and stiffing contractors who worked for him, other literal scams like Trump University, etc.

Stuff like that is enough for me.

I get the ends-justify-the-means stuff. Liking his wrecking ball approach to China. Not wanting Hilary.

But on him personally - he's a dud, always has been.

As I've mentioned, I've disliked him since a dingbat cousin of mine idolized him during the apprentice days.

When it comes to Trump coverage - I tend to read almost exclusively pro-Trump source since I know I'm personally wired to dislike the man.

These days, I mostly just keep to videos and tweets of him.

Let's talk about character and integrity.

Last week the democrats spent a week telling us how horrible thing are in America. We literally MUST get rid of Trump and put them back in power or the world is going to come to an end. We saw men dressed up like women denigrate our pledge, omit God, and we watched as a preacher prayed to that same God they want to eliminate and tell us if we didn't fall in line with their agenda, we would go to he'll.

Six minutes into the Republican convention and the preacher prayed for BOTH parties, and two different men recited the pledge, emphasizing the line "under God".

You'll have to forgive me, but I will not take anyone seriously who tells me they don't like Trump because of character and integrity issues, and allow the Godless, mentally ill Left to have a pass. Your3 just not credible.

                  a) I dunno anything about that.

                  b) I thought the "under god" thing was added in the 50's as a response to communism. Whoever made the pledge originally didn't have "under god" in it.

                  c) I'm not an atheist, but I find it odd to implicitly say that you have to believe in god to pledge allegiance to this country

                  d) that has nothing to do with my question on the POW thing.

You don't have to believe in God, But you DO have to respect the fact that the majority of us do, and until you get the people to vote to remove it from the pledge, respect it or get out.

That would make sense if that’s what he said. What Trump actually said:

“He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

Interesting. I just learned the pledge was invented by a Christian socialist in the late 1800s.

He blended left wing economics with Christianity.

Politics is a dirty, nasty business. Integrity is important, but so is policy and production. It's a low level war.

Like a chiropractor told me one time, " I can rub on you a little bit, do some stretches on you and mutter about I'm sorry that you hurt. Or I can do what needs to be done and it's gonna hurt like hell, but you'll get better.

Give me the guy that may hurt, but can be effective, rather than someone who tells you what you want to hear and doesn't get anything done.

“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Hey xenon, what do you think about a clinical psychologist throwing down such shade a week after a brother’s death and a day after the funeral? Where is that written in therapy manuals?

Actually, Bellamy wrote part of it. It's been amended a couple of times.

Bellamy was a Baptist minister, who at the time was a Christian socialist, a bit different than what the word socialist is taken to mean today. The Pledge was written in response to the adoption of Columbus Day, a holiday Bellamy had campaigned for (poor sod probably didn't know about Columbus enslaving all those charming native people he discivered).

As usual, history without context is useless. Rememeber, The Pledge was written within the lifetime of many of the combatants of the Civil War, a lot whom did not care a lot for the Union flag at one time. It was first recited by children and was seen as a unifying mechanism for Americans.

                                        It still is.
