    The big band that I’ve been playing in finds itself short on altos. In fact, they have none… So until we find someone better, I’m switching to first alto. Though I actually do prefer playing Bari, that’s a luxury, alto is necessary. This means I will actually have to step up and take some solos, including some improvisation… while I honestly prefer Bari, this will force me to step up my game and get closer to where I was 30 years ago…

      The best motivator for practice is fear of embarrassing yourself.

        I’ve come to realize that’s the whole point of hiring a teacher or trainer in just about anything.
