They could definitely work on being less repulsive and hateful. Many of them are working on that, in fact all the leading candidates are, even though I'm sure it hurts them in their very souls, to treat the subhuman opposition as if they're human.

They can probably fit whatever policy they want, around a more humble and less good vs evil messaging framework. But that wouldn't be much fun for their base. Bluesky is mostly daily wankery about retribution against Republicans after the Dems are in charge again.

Their base? Which base is that? The 58 year old uneducated woman voter that Biden’s campaign manager says is the base as proven by Biden’s nomination in 2020? That had to be the dumbest part of this whole thing. No wonder Uncle Joe was losing to Bernie.

I also thought this part was particularly funny

Perception of the GOP as “too conservative” fell from 47% to 44%, though the authors note that that number has moved back up in Trump’s second term.

Especially considering that Trump’s policies haven’t been particularly Conservative and are mostly pro-labor Democrat populism.

I noticed that line too. I initially misread it as "educated 58 year old women", which made more sense.

I get my vibes about their base from reddit, bluesky, and podcasts. One seldom hears uneducated 58 year old women talking or writing in any of those venues.

Here was the actual quote - “I thought Biden had proven in the 2020 primary that the base of the Democratic Party is a 58-year old woman without a college degree. But when you hear people in DC say ‘the base,’ they mean white intellectuals that live in a few coastal cities.””

Remember, this was the guy that was running Joe’s primary campaign, the one that was losing until the DNC pulled the rug out from Bernie.

I used to think campaign managers were hard core pragmatists with firm connections to reality. Then I saw what the best and brightest did with Kamala, and I realized that even that ultra high echelon assignment to get someone elected to the presidency, is filled with vacuous social climbers with no necessary talents at their actual job.

On second thought, I wonder if he was euphemizing 58-year-old black women.

I wasn't there at the time, but in hindsight, I wonder what would have happened in 2016 if it were Bernie vs. Trump? Essentially, the Republicans "crazy" guy vs. the Democrats "crazy" guy - both populists appealing to the disaffected.

He meant that Kamala was Biden’s base.

If you don't take it, it can only good happen.

Great, now I can’t get that song “All About That Base” out of my head.
