The last time I gave blood was in college, while I was on the crew team. It ruined me for endurance exercise for a week. Since then, I've been hesitant to give this liquid gold I have running through my veins. Not only because of the health effects, but also because I don't believe in helping people. But my red blood cell count is borderline high, so I decided to mitigate that with a blood donation, motivated by pure self-interest. I was relieved to find that just two days later, I was able to do a treadmill workout at normal effort.

I asked ChatGPT how much a pint of blood would sell for if it was legal, and it indicated that the blood centers sell to the health care system for around $300 per pint. My O negative blood would be more expensive though, at up to $500 per pint. But if there were a real market, one would not expect to get that much. The blood centers have to pay for their testing and logistics.

I did get a $25 gift certificate out of it. I'll probably be doing this every two months from now on. I hope I don't inadvertently help any bad people, like Republicans. I asked them to mark my pint as Democrat only.

You can get paid for plasma donations, and get your red blood cells back.

We O Negatives don't really like to be grouped with O Positives. Or as we call them, "shithole Os".

Just got this text from the blood bank:

"Your blood donation is on its way to someone who truly needs it. You may never hear their than you, but you've given hope, and that means everything."

What I know about hope, is that it is what rebellions are built on. If there is a rebellion in the near future, you'll know who to thank.
