I once spent the night on a bench on the sidewalk at Newark Airport, waiting for it to open.

It's a long story, I was working at Exit 8A and my wife went into labor. It was the last time I flew on a DC8. It only had a few passengers, a very nice flight.

I avoid Newark at all costs for other reasons.

We had a data center in Newark, near the airport. We had to unlock the chain link fence any time we came or went. The fence surrounded the parking lot and was topped off with concertina wire.

I try to avoid it too but sometimes United will have the only non-stop to certain destinations (Naples for instance). I’ve also chosen it when the remaining seats on other airlines suck.

But I’ll definitely avoid it 100% until this is fixed.

Then there was the old People Express terminal. It was tiny and had a low ceiling and People Express had a 747 flight from Newark to Boston. The terminal was built for small airplanes and the 747 was not small, it was a shoulder-to-shoulder cattle car, but it was cheap.

Wow!! That seems like it would be a really short flight. It would probably never fly at the proper height. LOL. Get up to height, and when it got there, start going down for the landing.

How does that possibly happen? The systems are not redundant failover? That’s scary.

Most pilots are trained to look out the window.
