My boss reached out to HR today to get assurances that there would be no retaliation against an employee who stated that they choose not to return to the office.

HR troll said, no, no, it would be completely voluntary. But, and I'm quoting here, "I would think that the rest of you would want to meet with your department head, wouldn't you? She might ask you all to just meet informally, and take you all out to lunch to get to know one another better. I would think that the rest of you would want to do that, wouldn't you?"

I've worked with these people for a few years. I'm telling you right now that if we don't go in, we're going to lose our jobs.

So my question to you all is, what would you do if it were you and this was your situation?

Document the hell out of the meeting and what was said. Make sure everyone else does the same.

Done. But do what with it? Wait to get fired, then get legal, right?

I don't think they give a crap where you work as long as the revenue stream is uninterrupted. I drove through a large office park today and the car volume was maybe 20% of what it normally is. Working from home is not an anomaly anymore.

They're firing my co-worker. They're going through with it.

              And I'm next.

That's not paranoia talking, my boss was told that I'll be next.

They're removing my co-worker's position, that's how they're handling that one. With me they're going to try gross negligence. Our dept head is getting help with that. Well, you can always offer to be laid off, rather than be fired for cause. At least that way, you get your unemployment.

Probably a stupid question, but is it possible to join a union of some sort - do you have time?

They're not going to do that shit. These people are evil. When my other co-worker was fired back in June, he even offered to help them transition for as long as is needed. Our dept head didn't go for it. "I'm not giving that asshole anything. " Direct quote.

You will most likely get your unemployment anyway. Disagreeing is not likely to be seen as willful disobedience.

They're going to try very hard. And they're going to have the support of HR and two other department heads. All I have are a mountain of emails saying what they received was great. So I'm figuring out how to archive all of that now.

The reason I ask is my SIL went through something similar. She showed up to the meeting where they were going to fire her and brought along a union rep. Company didn't know she was in a union. At that moment everything miraculously changed.

There is an export function in Outlook but they are hard to read.

But 7,000 emails will not be useful in any action unless you file a big dollar suit. Just save the ones that support your claim as documentary evidence. I'd just forward them to myself and save them in a folder.

Probably a stupid question, but is it possible to join a union of some sort - do you have time?

I have maybe about 2-3 weeks. After that I can't guarantee anything. Is that enough time?

The reason I ask is my SIL went through something similar. She showed up to the meeting where they were going to fire her and brought along a union rep. Company didn't know she was in a union. At that moment everything miraculously changed.

                                      That's an excellent idea.

Unfortunately, I only found one that I could join that wouldn't involve my employer signing a contract with me, and they don't have lawyers on retainer that could represent me in court. They do have lawyers, though, who offer guidance and support. And honestly, I think that's all I need. I get the phone call, and I can say, "before you go any further, I need to talk to my union representation about this, so please forward me your action so that I can consult with them."

I think that'll put the brakes on at least the worst of the shenanigans.

                                        Well, somebody just fucked up.

Last week, our VP told my boss that she's heard very serious allegations about the quality of my work by two other managers in the organization: another VP, and a Director. She mentioned these people by name. She said they have complaints and concerns about me.

My manager followed up with both of these people. Not only did they completely disagree with my VP's assessment, they denied ever having these conversations, and were angered to hear that our VP was putting words in their mouth. They both offered to give my manager written statements supporting me if needed.

Man what garbage. I hope the manipulative and dishonest slime bags get figuratively punched in the face. What's in it for them to get your fired, anyway?
