TikTok Redux - 75 days is almost up
-
Best guess is that Trump will move do another extension. A fair number of the bigger influencers have been moving from Tik Tok to other platforms - and encouraging their followers as well. Some of it has to do with an increased unhappiness with Tik Tok deleting posts for what are perceived as silly reasons - but can be related to the algorithm being updated with new words to search for and call attention to. Most of the big influencers have more than one platform. Still, there are a plethora of people making a living - or at least having as a side gig - income generating opportunities on Tik Tok that aren't so easy to secure elsewhere.

Mark Cuban dropped his new
SkynetSkylight app today as an alternative to Tik Tok. It is in beta mode and lacks some of the features of Tik Tok - but it also permits people to use such triggering words as "kill" as opposed to "unaliving". The content is neither as youthful (teens dancing videos) or instructional (oil industry news) so far - but we'll see where it is in a week. -
As you guys predicted, TikTok was given another 75 day extension. I did not closely read the law, but at what point would there not be allowed any more extensions?
-
The law provides for a one time 90 day extension if a deal is in the works.
Trump didn’t invoke that, he just said, twice now, that he’s not going to enforce it for 75 days. This is arguably in violation of the so called ‘take care’ clause of the constitution but someone with standing would probably have to sue him to stop it. I’m not sure who besides Congress has such standing. Maybe a TikTok competitor? I don’t know.
